Why I Started Austin Osteopathic Family Medicine
Do I need health insurance to become a patient?
No. Actually, this practice was created for those that don’t have insurance and those that pay directly for their care. Anyone can become a patient at anytime. We do not pre-screen or deny patients because of their age, race, religion, national origin, or pre-existing health condition. However, we do suggest that you have health insurance for unpredictable and catastrophic events. High deductible health plans combined with a health savings account (HSA) can make insurance more affordable and help you to save money for health care costs.
Is your plan health insurance?
No. Your member fee pays for our primary and preventive care services. These services will take care of the majority of the health care needs for most people. However, if you require care outside of our office your member fee will not cover these services. Your insurance may be billed by others for services such as emergency, hospital, specialty care, laboratory tests, diagnostic imaging, prescription drugs or other goods and services that are ordered by our clinic but are not performed or provided in our offices.
Is there a long-term contract?
No. Our services are offered on a month-to-month basis and you can cancel at anytime. There is an agreement that will be explained to you and you will be asked to sign, acknowledging your intent to pay for services.
Will my insurance reimburse my expenses at your clinic?
Maybe. The fees for in clinic medicine or medical equipment should be reimbursed at an out of network rate. The monthly fee may or may not be reimbursed.
How do I seek reimbursement from my insurance company?

Will my HSA reimburse my expenses at your clinic?
If you have an HSA you must check with your plan administrator to see if they consider our membership fee an eligible medical expense (please check with your administrator).
How much is the member fee and how quickly can I sign up?
We charge each patient a low, age-based monthly fee. Starting is quick and simple. To register, simply fill out our online registration form.
Are there any hidden fees?
No. We strive to help you make informed and financially responsible choices. You will be presented with the fee schedule if any test/lab/procedure is suggested.
If I go to an emergency room or see another doctor, will this clinic take care of those charges?
No. Your member fee ensures you access to care at our office during regular office hours. I will always be available for emergency phone calls and to act as your advisor. You are responsible for any charges incurred for services not provided by our office.
What services are included for members?
Your access to the physician, low cost lab work, and an EKG (as needed) are included. As a member, your follow-up and sick visits are included as well. Visits can take place in-person, over the phone, or on a video teleconference e-visit (certain visits must take place in-person). We will do everything we can to see members on the same day or next day. Additionally, plan members get a secure online personal health record, after hours phone coverage from the physician, email communication with the physician, and coordination of care with specialists.
How will I get care outside of your office?
We are attempting to obtain discounted prices for our patients at other health care organizations (i.e. specialist clinics, imaging centers, labs, counselling). If you have insurance you can continue to use your insurance for care outside of our office.
How will I get my medications?
We can use the discounted prescription lists that are available at multiple pharmacies to take care of many of your health care issues including (diabetes, high blood pressure, thyroid issues, common infections). These pharmacies offer particular medications at $4 for 30 days worth or $10 for 90 days worth.
Are vaccines included for Plan members?
No. However, I will work with you to procure vaccines that you would like and member’s cost will be reduced vs. what member would pay at other clinics.
Why don’t you take insurance?
Our vision is to take the time to get to know you, your health goals and to spend extra time “behind the scenes” in order to provide the service that you deserve. This type of care is difficult, if not impossible, on a consistent basis if a physician takes health insurance. Being able to coordinate specialist care, talk with you over the phone about your lab results, and answering a follow-up question over the phone that you forgot in the exam room are all examples of what this style of practice allows us to offer that we wouldn’t be able to offer if we accepted insurance.
Will you see me if I have Medicare?
At this time I am unable to see you if you have any type of medicare insurance. I hope to be able see medicare patients soon. If you would like to be on a list to be called when we are able to see medicare patients please send us an email or call.
